Need a new pleather/leather cleaning setup.
« on: July 01, 2009, 10:14:35 PM »
I have a 2007 Ford Fusion with protected/coated black leather interior. From all the reading I've done the only real leather is the seating areas and everything is pleather. I have Meguiar's Gold Class cleaner/conditioner in both the cream and wipes - and don't care for either. The wipes are real bad, seem super greasy to me. I think I remember seeing Lexol cleaner and conditioner (orange & brown bottles) at Advance - anyone use these? I also know it's been kicked around that this type of leather doesn't need conditioning, but I kind of hate to just wipe them down with something and be done with it...

What products and processes are you guys using on similar leather?

Been looking at these two also:

Megs does make a 2 step kit you can buy at big box retailers...its not bad at all.

However, I do have PB LeatherStuff, I really like it but its more of a conditioner and with a strong sent of leather which is good.

Never tried the Optimum but I am sure its good.

If you are really trying to clean, you need a safe cleaner that won't remove the finish.  Leather Masters makes a good cleaner....

As for Lexol, I have only used the conditioner, never the ornage bottle, but it makes me nervous to use b/c it is not allowed on KR leather so I don't use at all.

Rockpick, Trobers, Gip an DnD are kind of the jedi's around the cafe for leather care.

Hopefully they will chime in for ya

I wouldn't recommend the Lexol cleaner... the conditioner is pretty good stuff but, the cleaner is pretty dang harsh (even though it's called 'pH balanced').

For that leather, I'd go with the Meg's two step Rich Aloe system.  It's honestly a pretty darn good system.

One thing you didn't mention is if the leather is perforated... the reason I ask is because I like to use a liquid cleaner/conditioner if it is so that the perfs don't hold on to a gel-like product and ultimately get it on your clothes when you sit back in the seat.

I'm not a leather guru at all, but I'll second the Meg's 2-step. That stuff is pretty darn good.

Hey, attworth... why do you have a link to a domain 'for sale' in your signature?

RP - the seating surfaces are perforated.... you are saying you like creams better than sprays for this?

I am willing to give the 2-step a try for sure - are they better products than Meg's Gold Class cleaner/conditioner? My seats are never really super dirty so I think I mainly need a good conditioner.

How does PB's Leather stuff compare to this 2-step system? I really like the idea of an all in one leather product....

I don't think the PB LS says cleaner/conditioner, but my seats are pretty clean already so I don't really see much with them, i use more as a conditioner than a cleaner....the NLD is more of a cleaner to me.

Leather Stuff is a good maintenance cleaner/ conditioner/ protectant but not for filthy seats ... for filthy seats, i use my APC diluted either 7:1 or 10:1

Cause I'm a retard and typed the link incorrectly.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Would you guys recommend leather masters cleaners and creams?

I do believe Leather Masters products are pretty well liked here - I have not tried them myself.

I did just order some Leather Conditioning Spray from Justin at Obsessive Detail though - I will report back once I give it a go.

I use them mainly on KR leather.  I have only used the cleaner a few times.  They Leather Vital is a great product for sure.
