Which 7424xp starter package?
« on: June 17, 2009, 07:02:17 PM »

For a noob like me that probably won't get any more agressive cut than 105 at this point, which start package would you recommend

This one

 or this one?

The second one is what I'm leaning towards

Also would you risk buying a 1st gen, pretty much 1st run or wait. I know 1st runs can have some problems sometimes..

First... M105 can be SUPER aggressive.  Let's not forget that it's a COMPOUND.  You can EASILY screw up a paint job -- even by hand -- with M105 as it's a non-diminishing product.  In short, if you're rubbing it on the paint, it's working -- be it by mechanical or elbow grease methods.

At the same time though, it can be a pretty darn good finishing product too -- it's just all in the amount of cut that you let the product accomplish.  Again, if it's wet and your pad is spinning or your elbow grease is flowing; it's cutting.  ;)

As for the kits... I've never been much on Auto Geek but, based upon what I'm seeing... you posted the same link twice...

For my money, it'd definitely be the second package.  I've not read much on the XMT Pinnacle stuff but, what little I have, it was very mixed on the review side -- indicating to me that it may be an 'alright' product but, the jury may still be out.

 Thanks RP.

Now I have to figure out products. Are one of these pads good for the 105/205?

I'm going to have to defer this one to someone who knows the CCS pads better than me...

I'm a *huge* fan of 105 and the yellow SO1O pad.

Will all the brands of pads fit on the pc? I would assume so but..

All brands pf pads should fit on the PC fine.

I like the second kit better as well. The CCS 5.5" pads are much easier to use with a PC than the 6.5" in my opinion. I bought the first kit you listed when and don't really use the XMT stuff.

RP: have you went into any more detail about M105/solo pads in any other threads?

The 4 that come with it are a good start. I really like the white CCS pads, and I use the gray for glaze and wax.

I would get bare bones package but you need tto have extra pads.

If you are you going to use M105, I think a LC white CCS pad should be fine but in my experiments with 105/205, they worked better with flat pads (finished better).  You need to clean the pads regularly or switch to new ones so 3 to 4 pads should be good.

LC white polishing with M105, LC gray finishing with M205. This combo seemed to work but paint reactions can vary.

AG sells like 5 or 6 for a discount and you can mix and match colors if you specifically ask. I just pm'ed Meghan with the order no. and she insured they did it.

Imma throw in my .02... Why not build your own package?  The reason i say this, I started out with the 6.5 inch pads, then went to the 3.5 inch LC pads and .... well let's say i am super impressed.   They are a lot cheaper than the 6.5 inch pads too.

p.s. we get discounts at some of the "Friend's of the Cafe" businesses.
