How long can you expect out of these?

I have a small pad collection so mine see a lot of use and it seems that the softer pads (red and black) will go quickest.

How long they last will have many variables like what type of surfaces rough and smooth, types of products how many pads you have of same type, average rotation speed....ect. just to name a few things a nubie like me can think of.

Should I be cleaning them after every use or just once in a while?

It depends on how long I go between uses.  I clean on the fly so they never get too full.
Compounds I clean after each use no matter what...
I clean polish pads if I go more than a couple of weeks between uses.
Waxes seldom.

I keep all my pads in open plastic bags so they dont dry out until I wash them.

I've noticed that my white pad is already starting to tear.  I've only done one complete car and part of my truck and a very small portion of the boat.

Really, I have had my white pads for over a year now.

... and you've used them how many times?

Remember, you're the Jedi Master here too. You're probably using them correctly too!

There are far better detailer here than me...

I do have several sets of pads and they are rotated but you bring up a good point. I would say I have used each pad maybe 6-8 times.

No cuts but I do have one white pad where I did catch an edge and cut it but it still works.   I think it also has to do with how much pressure you put on the pads, the product being used and how you care for them.

In my opinion, they should last longer than 6 months unless you are doing full time business, then that is a different story.

Now that makes perfect sense - Sensei. As always, thanks!

Wowzas I must be putting too much pressure on the buffer!!  I will let way up and let it (the buffer) do most of the work.  They are soaking in Murphy's right now.
