Which pads to use with M105/M205?
« on: April 13, 2009, 08:00:46 AM »
I believe this has been discussed before, but I couldn't remember....

What pads do you guys like the best with Meguiar's 105 and 205? I think I remember something about using flat pads with the non-diminishing abrasives.... Right now I have a set of Lake CCS pads and cross cut flex pads. I want to pick up some 205 to try from Rick and was wondering if I should get a pad or two while I was at it.

Thanks in advance!

I like using the PFW pad and the white pad or green polish for 105...(Pending the condition) For 205, white also and or green finish (not green polish)

Consider me a fan of the white Lake pads.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

I've been using the orange pad with the #105.

With the #205, it's been the green cutting pad (not the finishing pad) or the white.

I'm using a PC.

I do have a PFW pad and a full set of CCS pads - I'll do some experimenting before I buy any more for now...

I hope this weather breaks soon....

LC Orange is great for heavy defect removal. PFW works well with 105 as well but is a pain to clean.

The softer german green foam is a great pad for both 105 and 205 depending on what you are working on.

White even works for 105 and 205.

I typically do 90%~ of my correction work with a rotary or FLEX and the Megs 7 inch yellow polishing pad, though. I've been meaning to play with my FLEX, PFW, and the new 105 though... haven't tried that yet. I used to have a LOT of success with FLEX, PFW, and the original 105.

Meg's yellow So1o pad... I have no reason to try anything else as it's yielding results that are above my expectations nearly ever time...

RP / Lumadar,

How different are those pads from the Soft Buff pads?

RP / Lumadar,

How different are those pads from the Soft Buff pads?
First, to give credit where credit is due... RP was the one that turned me on to the SOLO pads and M105.

That said, they are .5 inch smaller so slightly easier to control, they have more of a beveled edge, and probably 30-40%~ less surface area- so they are easier to control since you have less surface contact.

I have about 10 solo yellow pads because they are one of my favorite and more versatile pads.

Darn it! I just bought 2 more Soft Buff pads. Maybe business will be so good that I wear them out and go to the Solo pads next. Thanks for the information though!

Did you get the original softbuff pads? Or the new 2.0 pads?

I actually use the 2.0 more just for the sheer fact that I love being able to machine wash them. I sometimes dirty 5-10 pads on a car, so being able to toss my pads in my washing machine is a huge plus.

Unfortunately, the local detailing supply house only has the older pads, not the new ones. Can you say bummer?
