Title: New camping rig.
Post by: Rollingrock on September 12, 2022, 09:06:59 PM
So, as the shout says, we did a thing.

After almost a year of thinking about it, different options, decided to just downsize to the camper I have had my eye on for 2 years.  I found a close out hold over 2022 as the 2023's are already on the lot and they are 10K more.

We traded fair bc I bought pre covid when prices were normal but still our Jayco White Hawk was expesensive for what it was.   I really just wanted someting small and something that could dry camp (Boondock) if needed at some of the Mt Bike parks I like to go to b.c they offer free camping but its off the grid and welp, that isn't a problem now.   I can run everything on this camper but the micro/convection oven and AC on solar and battery and when I upgrade to LIPO's I will be able to do much more.  going to add more solar down the road.

Camper is half in weight, and 13ft shorter than prior rig.  I don't need WD hitch but moved mine over anyway and got new less heavy spring bars b.c the tongue weight at max is only 700 lbs.    This camper dry is 4895 lbs, and our other camper was 8500lbs dry.    as we had it packed it was more like 10K.   This one max load is 6200lbs i think, i have to look at the sticker.

Anywho, we have been working on it since Friday when I got home.  Drive 3 hours to get it and 3 hours back.

moved in and now packing up and taking it back up to Bentonville AR , Wed through Sunday this week,

Just got the bike rack installed on the tongue today, and test fitted it and got it all adjusted,   only one thing left to do, pack my clothes and bike gear....stop at a walmart on the way and get some food/water etc....and I will be working from the camper Wed afternoon and Thursday and Friday and riding after work everyday and riding all day Sat and the morning of Sunday.

Pretty excited, my uncle and his wife where here over the weekend, they helped us christen the rig and toast to fun, adventure and memories.

My son is so pissed at me for doing the first trip solo but soon enough we'll roll back and do a guys trip soon .

Nice unit!  I like your way of thinking.  I think that’s going to serve you well as a little base camp.

How big are the holding tanks and how long can you realistically be off grid for?

Hey Mike

Holding Tanks
Fresh.  55 gallon
Black 40
Grey 40

how long can you go off grid.   Well, just my little experiment, the solar and single battery can run the fridge and fantastic fan all night.   I didn't text with the TV but it too is 12 but I am sure that would kill a battery. when I tested it, the fridge is my main concern.   Bat was 3/4 empty over night..by 10 am with the sun, it was almost fully charged again.   And during the day. I ran the TV and the fridge and the solar had no issues keeping up.  There is a plug on the side that will allow for another panel so i could double that and if I upgraded to dual Lipo's i could go as long as I can go.  Tanks aside.

Not ready to drop 1500 on batteries right now.   Very poor

Looks to be a very nice size and should give you a lot of flexibility for bike parks or just heading somewhere for the weekend.

I hear ya on the batteries, they are awesome but very expensive. Even if you just grab a little 2000w suitcase generator, you can charge for a short time and get a lot more time out of them for a weekend.

People use campers similar in size all the time by us. There’s a bike park 2 minutes down the road at the ski resort.  You see everything from rooftop tents to small campers every weekend.  Pretty cool.  I’m jealous as I’m trying to figure out a comfortable road trip setup for national parks and such.

Looks like an awesome time. I’m going to head to Revelstoke for closing weekend with a buddy this weekend. I hope it’s not going to get too cold!

Awesome, Jason!  Even though you blew off one of my last texts to you, I’m still happy for you and glad to see enjoying the setup already.  Haha.  Even more happy to see you back on the bike which is assume means a lot of the health issues have been worked out.

Thanks Mike, i am focusing on IG right now.    Last couple of weeks are solo just me, trying to get my fitness back on track after all my shit I have gone through.

Just got home from Hot Springs, will replay with new photos of my new racks.....really needed some steady solo time on the bike. I did over 6K of climbing over 4 days in Hot Springs.  I think i am on the right path to get my shit together.

Came home, unpacted the camper, cleaned it out, then took to storage, came back home and installed the new Billiebars rack system that goes over the Peragon bed topper and put 2 new 1up Flush mounts on the billiebars.  holy shit, this is quality overland shit.   500lbs static weight limits on these mounts and bars.   Well above normal.    Over the moon happy with this set up and bonus, I now can carry 5 bikes in total non towing.   4 while towing.   I have room to add 3 more 1up flush mounts if I wanted to but that is just overkill and glutinous.
