Title: Drone filters
Post by: Blown F-150 on January 31, 2021, 11:03:18 AM
So I’m new this game and wondering about getting some filters for the pro 2. With glare being a possible issue, is the main filter type you get polarized?  I see a few sets available, but want to get something that will help balance and glare.

These are one set I was looking at.

Polar pro is probably the best.  Polarized will help in some situations.  It cuts down on the glare reflected off of things like water and glass and such.  It can improved saturation as well but it depends on your angle to the sun.  ND filters are going to be more useful to slow the shutter down to get that cinematic look.  You want your shutter speed for video to be twice that of your frame rate.  If shooting in 60 FPS the. You want to shoot for as close to 1/120 of a second shutter.  30 FPS you want to be closer to 1/60 of a second shutter speed.  Sometimes you don’t know until you get it in the air but there are apps that can help as well.  Polar Pro is one of the beat brands but there are others.

Thank you. I’ll do some more research this weekend while I’m laid up in the Hospital (surgery planned for later this week).

filters are kind of foreign to me on the Drone but I use them in normal photography.  (DSLR stuff)

I don't know why I have issues wrapping my head around it for the DJI...the good news, there are TONS of videos on this topic.

Those rules apply to the GoPro as well.  Just sayin... you can get polarizers and ND filters for the GoPro.  The tough part is the every changing conditions and adapting to them on the fly.  It’s easy when you are always behind the glass but when you’re in the middle of the action (say mountain biking) or the drone is half a mile away, 400 feet above the ground, it’s a little harder to change the filter.  Haha

Good luck on the surgery.  You’re not adding anything or removing it are ya?  I feel like Canada hasn’t completely lost it mind like the US.

They are chopping some stuff out, so probably be a slow recovery. It's pretty a straight forward procedure at least.

Hell, I've had so much stuff removed / chopped up that I've lost track! Good luck with the surgery though. Call me if you need any abuse.  :om:

Lol, yup!

They had to remove a 12” section of my colon. So less of a person, but not less of a man, lol.

Yea, that's not minor surgery. Then again, the things they do now with a scope (non-invasive surgery) are amazing. I've had 3 hernia operations - all old school / big scar style. Not fun at all. Hopefully, they're done down there for a while now ... I hope you have lots of alcohol for the recovery!

You’ve been eerily quiet for someone who should be laid up, recovering.  How’s the recovery going?

Surgery was mid-day on Thursday and really took it out of me. The doctor wake you up every 2 hours around the clock, so you get rest when you can.

Yesterday was pretty rough, they started me too soon on solids. In a better spot today. I’m hopingI can go home tomorrow or Tuesday.

That sounds awful but glad you’re doing better.  How long do they estimate the full recovery to be?

So speaking of Polar Pro.  I preordered their iPhone directors kit a few months ago.  It just came in the mail.  It’s their case with interchangeable filters.  It came with a 3-5 stop ND filter and a circular polarizer.  It also has a cool removable ha file for the case that makes using it more comfortable.  Not important to this thread but I love the case.  The filters seem very nice.  I will need to test them out a little.  But just sitting in the living room upon opening the box, I snapped this picture with the circular polarizer.  It’s weird because it seems to have added glare to the door but removed it from the floor.  I really should have take that picture in RAW now that I think about it.

And just a few pictures of the product.
