Title: My accident photos
Post by: Rollingrock on January 17, 2018, 11:47:58 PM
Ok.   This was 100% my fault.

I did side swipe a brick mail box.   To my defense...this one has been hit 3 prior times (not by me).

I have several excuses why....but here is the damage.   I am getting new front qtr panel....new door and all with it.  Plus new nerf bars.   New sensors etx.    Needless to say....I am beyond sick about this.

Ouch! Well, at least you're ok. I'm kind of surprised the passenger window didn't shatter since it's tempered glass. I've never seen one just spider web like that.

In the future, please leave "running over / into stuff" to us older guys!

Tom, all of the 2018 and newer vehicles have laminated glass all the way around now. I just learned about this a week ago on another forum that I belong to.

I'm amazed that the mailbox door is wedged between the truck door and fender like that.

I know the truck is the main concern but how easy is it to replace the mailbox within the brick?  It looks mortared in.  I know you spoke of moving the entire thing since it's been hit multiple times and you don't like it's placement but is that feasible for still getting the mail from inside the vehicle then?

That sucks Jason! All that tech and sensors and no help, eh?  :funny:

I'm sure they will get it all fixed up like new again.

The Mailbox is going to be rebuilt.  I broke it at the base as well.   They are also going to move it 9 inches off the road this go around

It sounded like a gun shot impact.  I was very worried about driving it to the body shop...I did manage to put tape on it but was told there was a film on it to keep it from blowing up.  The shop called today and told me it may be ready next Friday.   They know how I am about the paint, I asked them to wet sand the corners but not a big deal if they didn't, told them I would do it if they ran out of time and thank God, this isn't 3 stage paint.

Texas. Where the mailboxes are built to withstand a tornado and the houses are not.

Wow, sorry to see you had this happen, but look at it this way.  the 1st time is over, the dread can subside.

That is an impressive mailbox damage picture.  Only in TX.

Thanks for the support folks, these are photos i didn't want to post.

Body shop called me today and let me now that Friday it will be ready for pick up and they got the new door and QTR panel in today.   They were going to prep and paint. They know I have a certain affliction of OCD and done all my prior body work on prior cars and trucks.   Owner said, if I don't like it, they will redo it.

So we'll see.  Just landed back in DFW about an hour ago....30 min after I landed, I got a note asking me to be in Chicago Tuesday.    WTF.....

Already logged 14K miles in the air for Jan.

My girl is home.    I need to see it in the sun.   A small rattle in the door needs to be fixed.   But she is home

It's kind of tough to tell inside, but it looks like they did a pretty good job matching the color. That would be awesome!

Glad she made it back home!  Hopefully it's up to your standards and you can put it all behind you.  I'm sure nobody here will ever remind you of it.  I mean, hell, nobody ever reminds Gip that he threw out all of his towels.

Glad it's back in the Stable!

AMEN to that....so glad to have her back.
Glad it is fixed and back home.

Part of the reason I had the "accident" .  there is a strange blind spot on this truck....I do miss the parking ability of the Jeep.
Looks good! They did a nice job on it from what I can see in the pictures.

They did a great job as expected.  One little spot of dust in the paint but I can live with it.

Wait a minute. You can live with a little spot of dust? What's this, the beginning of the end for your OCD?

Not at all Tom but it is not worth asking them to repaint the entire door....I will probably wet sand it out myself.  It is a tiny spot.   OCD is on.
