My father bought this 1965 GT in 1977....I was 5. It was Mustang Blue back then, blue paint, blue carpet and dash. In 1984 he decided to make it Mustang Red and did a body off restoration. It has been this way since then. However, it sat. And I mean it Sat under cover in Fort Smith Arkansas where I allowed to drive it from time to time after putting in the rotobug and putting air in the shocks. Then it sat in Little Rock Arkansas until 1990. It was moved to Addison Texas. I was able to tinker and play with it for about 6 months there after college. It sat there for many years then was moved to Tampa Florida in 2000. Where it was driven more. Then when my brother turned 50 (2 years ago) it was a gift to him from my dad. For the past 2 years it has gone under a 3rd restoration.. Media blasted and repainted, all metal restored and or changed, all new interior, top, boot, and motor and transmission overhauled. The paint is 1 year old and never corrected from paint booth. So this past weekend, here is what we did.
Optimum ONR wash (2 Bucket method)
Tires, APC+
Megs 2 Step MF system on doors, and QTR panels
Flex with Menzerna SIP with Blue Polish (Mild) Lake Pad on Hood and Bonnet
Followed by Megs second step Finish wax and pad.
Topped with Wet Obsession. 1 Coat.
Wheels and metal polished with Optimum Metal Polish using gentle Steel Wool pads
Tires coated with Optimum Tire Gel and Bond.
Interior cleaned and dressed with PoorBoys Leather STuff and NLD.
Overall, the paint is 85% better, it had buffer trails and tics in it not to mention normal spider webbing. The paint isn't great, lots of defects and lots of orange peel. I need 10 more hours with this paint and it will look 100% better. My brother wants to wax vs seal or coat so we went this route. I am overall pleased with the depth of the paint and look of the wax. The wheels look amazing. This is a mint restoration. But I want to see it again in my garage.

What a sweet ride! Looks like it came out very nice, great work!
That is the type of car I would really enjoy to spend some time on getting it detailed.

Was that (period correct) single stage or modern BC / CC paint?

This isn't "RollingRock" quality work this was very fast and get it close work. I can fix this paint (This is not like the black Lexus from years past) I just wasn't given a proper window to correct so I did what I could with the time I had.
I need a solid 10 more hours on with it.

How long did you spend on it, if you need another 10 hrs to get it the remainign 15% the way there ?

Steve, I need more time b.c there are areas that need to be wet sanded and corrected. There is some marring in this paint that the Megs MF system cannot get out and thus I would want more time...plus, I think I can make it look better. Hell the hood and bonnet alone would take me 5 hours. While the car is my brothers now I consider it a family car so yes I would want to do more with it.
