I have been spending some time on the sled getting it ready for the winter. I popped a cookie last winter, so it's a motor rebuild on top of a pretty solid once-over.
Here's what she looked like with the motor out and a few bits removed

wow man, looks scary...I usually have some extra parts left over from projects like this.
Didn't you have some videos from a trail ride a year or so back?

Wasn't that a bachelor party in the summer at a quarry camp site and water skipping a sled ?

Thanks for finding that one Steve. I also posted up some vids on the trails around home as well some time back. It's easy to hit 100mph on some of the straight stretches, tons of fun! With the mods I'm doing on this on, it won't be any faster, but will be quite a bit quicker.
I bought a Billet Cylinder head and custom Pistons, Clutch upgrade (entire clutch) and will change the gearing a bit.
Here are the trial vids with a sled getting used in the actual winter. This is a different sled than the one I'm wrenching on now.
Quality isn't that great, my old rendering software sucked when you try to reduce the file size/quality.

I've made a bit of progress over the last few days. Pretty much finished up the polishing and have the engine cases cleaned all up.

Grizz is gone bye bye but I wish I didn't sell it. The Teryx is in the shop to get a new CVT belt, check clutch, valve timing and ALL fluids changed. The belt change me and a buddy did with a Gates Belt didnt solve my issues.
Not to hijack this thread but when i dropped off my Side By Side they offered me 7600 cash for it. I almost took it. I still may. The one ones sure look sexy.

no worries about a thread jack from me!
The new ones are very nice. When I was back home, one buddy has an 800 Ranger, another has a 900 RAzr modded (crazy fun) and another has a brand new 1000 Outlander. I was beyond jealous, but did get to tear up with them all. My Dad has the same bike as Mike's, So I do have some fun on that when I'm home.

Ii don't know for sure. I know belt. Problems are common on the Teryx. James mods clutch sheaves. He's been working on Teryx sheaves lately and is getting good results. Less belt wear than from the factory and more use able power.

I wish I had more of this on video but my Gopro was mounted to the Razr owned by the poor guy standing behind me in that picture. And that Razr was off to the left of this picture stuck in a mud hole. I was tasked with getting him out until I got stuck. His son is behind to the left also stuck. Haha.

Give him a call. Or join the site. He's incredibly hard to get a hold of though. Even on his site he doesn't always answer fast but he's a mad genius when it comes to side by sides.

I spent all day on it today and made some progress. I know it doesn't look like much, but lots of time consuming stuff.
The goal for tomorrow is to get the fuel tank back in and button up the intake and get the head on.
- Starter rebuilt and installed on the motor
- Motor installed in the sled
- Bulk of the coolant lines, vacuum lines and wiring harness installed
- Some odds and ends like snow flap, oil tank and rear bumper installed
Here is how she sits as of now

Wow, that looks awesome.

I think we have different understandings of what looks and doesn't look like much. That looks like a ton of work. Looks great. I keep thinking man, what if he misses something early on in the rebuild and doesn't know it until he's finished.

It'll be a pity to take that thing out on a trail and actually get it dirty. Looks awesome!
-
Thanks Guys!
More progress made yesterday.
Essentially, I checked out the fuel delivery system (cleaned out tank and fuel pump), installed the front bumper, y-pipe, RAVEs, reeds, fuel pump, fuel tank, track/drive shaft and brakes.
I went to the Team Clutch kit and found it to be the wrong one. I ordered the right one for my sled, but they shipped me one for a Summit XP! it really sucks as the kit came out of the states and there is no way it will be resolved for this Friday (when I plan on taking it to Calgary 700 miles away). So I will continue on my way of installing the OEM secondary and deal with getting the clutch kit in this winter.
The rest of my parts should get here tomorrow and will let me button up the suspension and carbs. Then I'm on the home stretch.
Sweet head

I spent a bit of time on the side panels. I wanted to chop up the decals a little bit and make it look a little cleaner. I do hope to wrap it sometime in the future, but for now this is free!
Once I pulled decals, the panels were cleaned up with Opti Power Clean 3:1 and then hit with Meguair's Ultimate Black Trim restorer. I like it because it "dries".

Overall, I am happy with the results. Hopefully I can get to the hood in the next couple of days.
-
Is there a reason you did not use OptiCoat on the side panels ?
It normally darkens the black plastic a bit. I just polished and OptiCoated ( used the end of an OptiLens ) the power room garbage can, it looks better than new now.
-
I was thinking about it, but wasn't sure if it was really worth it. Since it's a pretty heavily textured plastic, I like it to have some shine.
I am thinking about using OC on the "shiney" white plastic though. It would be better than Powerlock I would think.
-
Wait, now we are detailing garbage cans?
Sled looks great!

That is about all I can detail right now with work load and weather.
Clean plastic with PB APC and parts brush.
PB ProPolish by hand on white then blue foam on white metal parts.
GG Pre Wax cleaner to make sure the surface was clean.
OptiLens application
Finished product.

OPT OptiLens darkened up the plastic nice. Matt finish on it before and after.

The textured plastic would not have a shine to it, but it would bring out the color pretty well, and it would stay that way.
I think the sled would be a great use case for OC. It is not as if you are going to be stopping and detailing it mid season.

Ok, be honest... You had that picture waiting, ready to be posted didn't you? I was 72% kidding when I asked for a picture. On a side note though, the only thing I ever found to get the rubber trim around side windows to look good enough for my liking has been OptiSeal. Still one of my favorite products.

I read your post and got up to take the picture.
Now you tell me you tell me you were kidding. I had to walk ~20 feet round trip to take that picture, I even had to open a cabinet to pick up the camera. Uhhgg what a nightmare, pressing the button on the camera to auto focus it. Ouchie, it hurts.
:funny:
Mrs asked where I was going, I said someone wants a picture of the garbage can. she asked who, I told her the cafe guy I swap weight lifting info with. She knows it was you that asked for it. :redneck:
Back to the topic, OC is also one of the only things I have found that works well on plastic and rubber trim. I use very little PB Natural Look for plastic and rubber on my vehicles anymore.
-
Thanks for posting up the pic Steve, it gave me a laugh during a pretty tough week.
I will give OC a shot on the other plastics and see if I like it. At the very least the windshield and shiny white plastic will get OC.
I'm going to attempt the interior on the Edge tonight, so the sled may get looked at this weekend.
