Title: Some pitting on the inside of rim
Post by: Tdub on April 11, 2011, 01:08:18 PM
These are Cadillac wheels and are like 2yrs old at the most and taken off in the winter months.  I'm putting them back on and noticed the odd pitting/corrosion.  I've used Wheel Sealant on them for a while now.  Any ideas on how to fix or prevent further?   :dunno:

Probably rock chips in the clear letting in moisture and once it starts it's normally to late.

Man...I wonder how I would have gotten those?  I'm pretty weird about the cars. Guess I will just keep sealant on them.  I wondered if it was from the brakes??

it's entirely possible it could be from the brakes and I forgot to ask are those the stock coated wheels or are the aftermarket? If they are uncoated you could always take a rotory with a crappy pad to them and polish them back out.

I remember you getting these wheels.  They're not very old at all.  That's terrible.  Is there any kind of warranty on them?  Maybe call the manufacturer or who you bought them from.  Is it only on the inner barrel of the wheel?  The clear coat looks defective.

Yep...
or it could be impurities in the finish prior to clear coat so if it feels smooth on the surface and you dont see visual damage from the exterior.

Many wheel cleaners are harsher than you might think and many aftermarket clear coated wheels are not very well clear coated.
Are those original GM/Caddy mfg parts?  If so I would look into the warranty.

I'd agree ... some guy from Canada called me today about his chrome wheels pitting after a couple winters ... especially in the edges and crevices  and he was driving though touchless car washes a few times a week and wondered why it was happening  :dunno:

Remember, most manufacturers (and most owners) don't every worry about the back sides of their wheels. Then there's folks like us ...  :moody:

I had these replaced under factory warranty because the old had some slight corrosion on the spokes.  They changed these out even though they said they normally wouldn't.  I doubt they will cover them again seeing how it's out of warranty.  Honey......   time for a new car!!!  :redneck:
