Super Car Drive
« on: August 17, 2018, 01:04:33 AM »
Well boys, if you ever have the chance to take some fun cars for a drive....DO IT!

I've driven some pretty awesome cars in the past, but never in a situation where they expect you to rag on them. I will be going back for sure once I save up some $$$. Gotta bring out my Dad the next time around as he will love it.

The deal was basically that they had 5 super cars. We were a small group and only took 4. We left the Audi R8 behind.

Overall drive was probably about 1.5 hours with some slow back roads and then 60 miles of hwy. One guy lead and the other followed. It was just Heather and I in one car, and another couple in the other car for clients.

First up was the Lambo Gallardo. It was very exciting and fun, but harsh. The ride was rough and the shifting hit with a "bang". I liked it for the thrills, AWD and outright acceleration, but probably my least favorite of the four.

Next was a Porsche GT4, Manual. Lowest HP of the group, but certainly had the best handling manners and probably just getting to drive it as a manual made it something special. I really loved driving this one and banging through the gears. Very easy to drive and loved the corners.

Then we hopped in the Z06. This thing is a absolute beast. Once I got to this car, the guides started to trust me a little bit and one of them actually asked me if I had professional training/racing experience. I asked over the radio if it was OK to throw it a bit into a turn and he said "you bought the best insurance, so have some fun!" The Wife got a bit pissed mid corner/slight drift, but calmed pretty quick once she saw I had it under control. It was a convertible and the noise was absolutely intoxicating. Love, love, love this car. It was the most "Driver friendly" and comfortable of the bunch, but it would bite you pretty hard if you weren't careful.

I saved the best for last, Ferrari 458. Heather and I arrived early, so we got to pick the order of cars. This was my most sought after car, so I figured I would pick it last as I would be most comfortable and it's the longest stretch to drive the last 1/4. This car did not disappoint. It was a absolute DREAM to drive. the handling was mind-blowing and the speed/acceleration was like nothing else experience wise. The sound of the motor was crazy good and addicting. the guides trusted me and the other by the last stretch and actually sent one of them ahead to do a little "white rabbit" to check for cops. Once he gave us the all clear, the other guide said "Try and keep up". We absolutely blasted it, I hit over 160mph on one stretch (closed course of course, lol) and Heather was just giggling when we would run the car hard through the gears. I couldn't believe how this car drove and now even have more of a love for it, than the obsession I had with it before.

Absolutely amazing experience and I will have to do it again. I'll get some pics posted up from my phone, but Heather had more that I need to get.

Best Birthday Present EVER!

Very cool!

Did the R8 have the V8 or the V10?  It's supposed to be a great car, not that any of those cars aren't great.  Haha.

I don't know if the new motor in the truck is going to be enough for you now that you got a taste for these.  Haha

That is not for me, as I need a 3XL vehicle.

I would never fit in this at 6'-2" 260#

It was the V8, so I figured it would be the least “fun” to take, lol.

Ha, I not that far behind you. I’m 6’2” and 220. Other than the Lambo, I had to move up the seats in all of them. Porsche had really tight seats though.

I think you'd be surprised.  Generally I've found that I fit in most two seaters ok.  If it's got a back seat then not so much.  I'm 6'3 and anywhere from 240-270.  Probably somewhere near 255 now.  I do not fit in convertibles very well it seems though.  370z and Corvette convertible just don't work.  Regular Corvette is fine.  Go figure.

You should! It might get you in a bit of trouble, but you only live once!

Bit of trouble is an under statement.  Fluid is the best way to call the road usage.

It was ~ 0.75 mi from here

That is not Washington Square Park...

That's awesome. My wife wants to go there next year.

We go there on Nikki's birthdays that end in a zero. It is a great time if you are into food, coffee and wine.
We even caught Straight No Chaser there on the EU tour.

It was funny that that the same type of test drive was going on there.
If you could get out onto the Pperipherique it could be a good time, if you keep an eye out for Goldwings split lane at speed.
- I worked in France for 9.5 months back in 2000 on the France Telecom account, seen a lot of it.
